Brooklyn Black Cake

Brooklyn Blackout Cake. Popular during and just after the second world war, this is a chocolate lover's dream come true. Rich dark sponge is filled and layered with thick chocolate custard.

Black is modest and arrogant at the same time. Black is beautiful and easy – but mysterious. But above all black says this: ‘I don’t bother you – don’t bother me.'

Inside look at the Brooklyn Blackout Cake. I'm going to tort it into thinner layers next time so each mouthful will have a better ratio of custard to cake.
